About me sections always get me. Mainly because they force me to ask “Who am I?”, a question that’s plagued me all my life. The big problem with that question is that there are just so many ways to answer it!
I could go with my history and say I’m a musician from New Orleans, I graduated from Ben Franklin High School and New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts there, then graduated from the New School in New York City. I could talk about how I studied with many great teachers including Donald Harrison Jr., Christian Scott, Alvin Batiste, Clyde Kerr Jr., Barry Harris, Reggie Workman, etc. I could even discuss being adopted into what I’m pretty sure is scientifically proven to be the best family ever and how that’s impacted me.
Or I could go with my present and say I’m a producer, singer, and rapper currently living in Harlem, New York. I work with some incredible artists and on my own music. I could talk about my current influences spanning from Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, and Tyler the Creator to The Beatles, Prince, and Stevie Wonder. I could say that when I create, whether producing or making my own music, I build with only the story and the feeling in mind, and that everything I do lends itself to that.
Then again, I could also go with the future and talk about my hopes to be recognized for my work as an artist and producer, but more importantly wanting to always create music that affects you. Do any of those actually answer who I am though?
Maybe instead I go with the story of how I got into producing, singing, and rapping in the first place? Like what if I went into how I was playing music before and found my heart wasn’t in it? Should I talk about how I had basically quit and spent seven years just working on production, my voice, and writing because that’s what brought me joy; and how I finally started feeling confident and decided to start pursuing it as a career?
Then again I can go with none of the above and do a cool metaphor/parable type thing like ‘the moon’s relationship with the ocean is what the artist’s relationship must be to the consumer…’
Ultimately, I think the things you most need to know about me are in the music. It’s more me than any of those answers could ever really be. Please give a listen and please follow me on social media and on streaming apps to stay up to date with new releases. Thanks for visiting my site!
